Looking for a solid day on the water without breaking the bank or burning a whole weekend? Captain Charley's 4-hour inshore trip is exactly what you need. This isn't some cookie-cutter charter where you're just another customer – Charley knows these waters like the back of his hand and has dialed in the patterns that put fish in the boat consistently. Whether you're bringing the kids for their first real fishing experience or you're a weekend warrior looking to scratch that fishing itch, this trip delivers the goods. We're talking about targeting some of the most sought-after inshore species in these waters, and with Charley's local knowledge, you'll be fishing the right spots at the right time instead of just hoping for the best.
This 4-hour window is perfectly timed to hit the prime feeding periods when inshore fish are most active. Captain Charley runs a spacious, comfortable boat that handles the inshore waters beautifully – no cramped quarters or sketchy rides here. The beauty of inshore fishing is the variety, and that's exactly what this trip is all about. One minute you might be working a grass flat for trout, the next you're sight-casting to cruising snook along a mangrove shoreline. Charley's approach is hands-on coaching, especially if you're newer to the game. He'll show you how to read the water, when to set the hook, and those little tricks that separate the fish-catchers from the fish-feeders. The trip accommodates up to 6 anglers, making it perfect for families or groups of friends who want to share the experience without feeling overcrowded.
Captain Charley doesn't waste time running all over creation hoping to stumble onto fish – he's got this dialed in. You'll learn proven techniques that actually work in these specific waters, not just generic stuff you could read in any fishing magazine. We're talking about live bait presentations, artificial lure selection, and reading structure that holds fish consistently. The inshore game is all about understanding tide movement, water temperature, and seasonal patterns, and Charley breaks it down so it actually makes sense. You'll fish a variety of structure – grass flats, oyster bars, dock lines, and mangrove edges – learning how each spot fishes differently throughout the tide cycle. The gear is top-notch and perfectly matched to the techniques you'll be using. Whether you're bouncing jigs on the bottom for black drum or working topwater plugs for snook, everything is set up for success.
"By far, the best fishing charter I have been out on. We left the dock and were on fish in no time. I can't believe HOW MANY FISH WE CAUGHT! And this was only in 4 hours! Captain Charley was so easy to talk to and knew exactly where to fish. There was no driving around the river hoping and praying. Nice spacious boat, ride was comfortable. Definitely will book with him again." - Maryann

Snook are the crown jewel of inshore fishing, and for good reason. These ambush predators love structure and moving water, making them a perfect target for this type of trip. They're notorious for their explosive strikes and bulldogging fights that'll test your drag and your nerves. Peak snook action typically happens during the warmer months, but they're catchable year-round if you know where to look. What makes them so special is their unpredictability – one cast they'll ignore a perfect presentation, the next they'll blow up a bait with enough violence to make your heart skip. The slot fish run 28-33 inches, and anything over that minimum is going to give you a real tussle.
Grey Snapper might not have the flash of a snook, but they're one of the smartest fish swimming and make for some of the best eating you'll find. These guys are structure-oriented and can be incredibly finicky about bait presentation. They'll test your patience with subtle bites and lightning-fast runs toward cover once hooked. The beauty of snapper fishing is that they school up, so when you find one, there are usually more around. They're particularly active during moving water, and Captain Charley knows exactly which structures hold the better fish consistently.
Black Drum are the bulldozers of the inshore world, and when you hook into a good one, you'll know it immediately. These bottom-feeders can grow massive – we're talking fish that'll make your arms ache. They're year-round residents but really turn on during the cooler months when they school up in deeper holes and around structure. What's great about drum fishing is the technique – it's all about feel and patience. You'll learn to detect those subtle bites and how to keep pressure on a fish that wants nothing more than to wrap you around the nearest piling.
Crevalle Jack might not win any beauty contests, but they fight like they're twice their size and never give up. These silver torpedoes are pure muscle and attitude, making long, powerful runs that'll test your equipment. They're perfect for anglers who want to feel their rod load up and stay bent. Jacks are opportunistic feeders, so they'll hit a variety of baits and lures aggressively. They school up and feed actively, creating some of the most exciting fishing you'll experience on the flats.
Florida Pompano are the speed demons of the shallows, and catching them requires quick reflexes

Black drum are the heavyweights of the shallows, averaging 5-30 pounds with some monsters hitting 90 pounds. These grey-black bruisers with crushing jaws love oyster beds, muddy flats, and brackish estuaries. Spring is prime time when they school up for spawning and make those distinctive drumming sounds. They're bottom-feeders, so you'll hear them crunching shells below your boat. Great fighters and good eating under 15 pounds - bigger ones get tough. Use fresh blue crab or clams on the bottom with enough weight to stay put. Pro tip: listen for their drumming calls during spawning season to locate schools.

These brassy bulldogs of the shallows run 3-5 pounds on average but can push 60 pounds. Look for bird activity - jacks push baitfish to the surface while feeding. They cruise seagrass beds, sandy flats, and around structure in both shallow and deeper water. Spring through fall offers the best action when water temps are warm. Guests love their raw power and bulldog fights - they're pure adrenaline on light tackle. Some say you can smell watermelon when schools are feeding nearby. My tip: cast silver spoons or swimbaits past the school and retrieve fast. They can't resist the chase, and that aggressive retrieve triggers strikes every time.

Pompano are the gold standard for eating - buttery, flaky meat that commands top dollar in restaurants. These compressed, silvery fish with yellow fins typically run 1-3 pounds and 12 inches, though bigger ones show up. They love sandy bottoms near Gulf beaches where they hunt shrimp and mollusks. Summer and fall are prime time before they head deeper in winter. Part of the jack family, they're scrappy fighters despite their size. Use small hooks since their mouths are tiny - big hooks will spook them. Live shrimp or small jigs in bright colors work best. Pro tip: use yellow or orange jigs in clear water to catch their attention.

Grey snappers, also called mangrove snappers, are smart fish that'll test your skills. These copper-red colored fish with the dark eye stripe typically run 1-2 pounds inshore, though they can hit 20 pounds in deeper water. They love structure - mangroves, docks, rocks, and reefs where they ambush prey. Being nocturnal, dawn and dusk fishing is prime time. Guests prize them for their white, flaky meat and the challenge they present. They're opportunistic but cautious. Use live shrimp hooked through the tail on a 4J hook. My secret: let your bait sit still on the bottom - too much movement spooks these smart fish.

Snook are the ultimate inshore gamefish with that signature black lateral line and golden coloring. They average 1-2 feet but can reach over 4 feet. These ambush predators love structure - mangroves, docks, bridges, and creek mouths where fresh meets salt. They're temperature sensitive, so spring through fall is best. What makes them special is their explosive strikes and gill-rattling jumps. Plus, they're excellent table fare. They hunt like bass, so similar tactics work - soft plastics, topwater, and live bait around cover. Here's the key: work your lure slowly near structure and be ready for that crushing strike when it comes.
